GLORY DAYS!! The Devils defeat the Senators 5-2 in their second to last game before the mandatory three day Christmas break. The top line had 9 points and was dominant every time they touched the ice. The team looked ready to fight literally as there were many scraps after the whistle. Miles Wood and Coleman were chippy all night ready to drop the gloves at any moment if needed.
Lets just talk about the one play that everyone will remember.
How that puck stayed out of the net is unbelievable. I feel like these plays are usually happening against us not for us. Three Devils throw their bodies in the net to keep the puck out and it worked. This is the effort and intensity level this team must play with if they want to climb back up the standings. Palmieri and Hall go 2 on 1 and Hall burst into the middle of the ice to win position from his man. He of course nets the shot and the place goes crazy. Hall’s celly is just amazing.
Kinkaid was solid in net and it was definitely one of his better games as of late. Him and Blackwood could be a good duo if the defense in front of them does not constantly break down.
The Devils penalty kill was strong again and their special teams generated some good shots on net. I thought this was a game where they played a full three periods and it showed on the scoreboard. They usually come out in the first and play sloppy and tonight they fixed it and as a result they went into the locker room with a 2-0 lead after one period.
Unfortunately the only negative news was that Marcus is going to be out with an upper body injury for a decent amount of time. The poor guy can just not catch a break with us. Hopefully he comes back sooner rather than later and can get back to his normal self.
The Devils final game before the break will be Sunday afternoon against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
