The Devils defeated Vegas in a thriller 5-4 in OT and scored in the final minutes in Nashville to force OT but unfortunately fall in the shootout.
The Devils win against Vegas could be a season defining one. They went down 3-0 in the first ten minutes of the game. Whatever coach John Hynes said in the locker room worked because the team battled back to force a 4-4 tie after three periods. The Devils looked like a completely different team after the first period and all four lines came out swinging. Nico would put home the OT winner in the first minute.
Winning that game without Taylor Hall who was out due to a lower body injury is something that can rally this team. They defeated a good team after trailing by 3 without their MVP winger. They took that confidence into Nashville the following night.
The Devils were struggling to beat Nashville’s goaltender Saros and could not convert on any of their power play chances. It looked like they were going to get shutout but Brian Boyle had other plans. Instead with Kinkaid pulled for the extra attacker, Boyle scored with a two minutes left to tie the game at 1. The Devils would then play a fast moving overtime in which they had numerous chances to win. They would fall in the shootout in the sixth round.
Grabbing 3 out of 4 points against Vegas and Nashville in a back to back is a complete success, especially without Taylor Hall. This can hopefully give these guys confidence as they are a much better team then they showed during the first quarter of the season. The Devils will have their hands full Tuesday night at home against the Maple Leafs.
Lets hopefully get Hall back in the lineup and take two more points.
